For this project, I wanted to simulate the observation and analysis aspects of an urban case study. Based off of urban theorist Jane Jacobs, I went throughout uptown Seattle and shot images of residential and community structures. All of the images are in black and white to make the image less distracting. The annotations on the side and bottom of the images provide detail of my own opinion about certain attributes about the subjects and the image composition. The red ink signifies the overwhelming feel that is exuded by the subject, and the black represents small notes, questions, and diagrammatic errors or pros of the subject/image. In going further with this project, I would like to educate the viewer about urban life; the importance and influence certain features have on people and the dynamic of the community; all of which in an effort to have people become more civically engaged.
