The Colonnade on Spring Garden Avenue, or simply The Colonnade, aims to enhance the Pittsburgh experience for both visitors and locals. Located at the intersection of Concord St., Vinial St., Ahlers Way, and Spring Garden Ave in the North Allegheny Neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the hostel is an adaptive reuse project situated within and around the former shell of an old shoe factory. Throughout the design, multipurpose spaces have been created for communal use, featuring large open windows that welcome ample natural light. Public and private spaces are clearly delineated through the maintenance of the South facing wall. The exposed structural trusses throughout the project contribute to the creation of spacious and inviting interiors, enticing visitors to relax in one of the indoor patios while basking in the play of shadows cast by the various beams and columns.
